Ulph Hamilton was born in Torres Novas, 1920, to Swedish Count James Barbatana Douglas Hamilton and Copenhagen socialite Erna Joachina Madraço Pedrada Hamilton. Erna was born in Bragança and loved classic music. A virtuoso pianist, she created, amongst others, the transmontano masterpiece «Para lá do Marão mandam os que estão, caralho».
